Boston United secured an eye-catching away victory on Saturday as they ended Chorley's unbeaten home record in the process.

Dayle Southwell capped a dominant United display before half-time with a 34th minute header and the lead was doubled by a Mark Ross own goal 12 minutes after the break.

Ross cut the deficit deep into stoppage time but United were worthy winners to chalk up a fourth away victory of the campaign so far.

United boss Dennis Greene had opted to name an unchanged XI for the first of back-to-back clashes against the Magpies, with Scott Garner once again utilised in midfield.

The Pilgrims had a goal ruled out inside two minutes when Mark Jones converted from close-range, following Zak Mills' drive, but was flagged offside.

Chorley suffered a blow when captain Andy Teague limped off with 10 minutes played which necessitated a defensive reshuffle for Garry Flitcroft's side.

United carved the Chorley defence open several times during the first half, with Kaine Felix's low drive clutched by Danijel Nizic following good play from Greg Tempest and Jones down the left.

Nizic, the Burnley loanee who was United's nemesis for Workington last season, then made an excellent save to keep out a stinging Southwell drive following Jones' assist, while Garner soon headed over from an inviting Southwell cross.

United took the lead 11 minutes before the break. A terrific counter attack saw Tempest pick out Jones to ping a brilliant ball out to Felix who ran on and crossed for SOUTHWELL to head home at the back post.

It was almost two for United, with Nizic's clearance smacking Felix in the back and dropping agonisingly wide of a gaping net. Garner then smashed the bar with a half-volley following Mills' long throw.

The Chorley response never really materialised after half-time and United increased their lead on 57 minutes. Jones flicked the ball around the corner and Felix's driven cross-shot deflected in off ROSS.

It was still United who looked likelier to score, with Nizic grabbing a Jones header, Mills blasting over from a Tempest corner and substitute Zeph Thomas seeing a drive deflect agonisingly wide.

Chorley reduced the arrears in the third of four additional minutes, with ROSS stabbing home a corner that had bobbled around the Boston box, but there was not enough time for the Magpies to force an undeserved leveller.
