Nicky Walker struck a brace as Boston United demolished Colwyn Bay 5-0 at The Jakemans Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Walker opened and completed the scoring either side of a Rob Hopley own goal, a Marc Newsham drive and an angled Dayle Southwell finish as the Pilgrims swept aside the Seagulls.

United keeper Joel Dixon was not unduly troubled throughout as the Pilgrims opened their 2015 home campaign in style.

Missing Jamie McGhee through illness, United boss Dennis Greene also opted to relegate strikers Southwell and Mark Jones to the bench, with debutant Grant Roberts joining Newsham and Alex Simmons in the starting XI.

With a frosty surface to contend with, United made the brighter start as fog began to envelope the stadium, with Carl Piergianni's 10-yard header flashing over the bar following Walker's flighted free-kick. Simmons then drove well wide from 15 yards following Walker's cross.

United took the lead on 27 minutes when WALKER capitalised on some questionable Bay defending to virtually walk the ball past Chris Sanna following link-up play with Newsham.

Chances continued to arrive with Piergianni's header nestling a fraction over the bar following Roberts' corner while Walker's angled header was hacked off the line by Hopley.

Bay were presented with a glorious opportunity when Obi Anoruo chipped wide after Dixon and Piergianni had failed to clear a routine throughball.

United edged two goals in front seven minutes after half-time when Walker's free-kick was flicked on by Piergianni and HOPLEY inadvertently diverted it beyond Sanna and into the net.

NEWSHAM struck, three minutes later, to bury Zak Mills' incisive throughball and hand the Pilgrims a three-goal lead.

Goal number four arrived on 70 minutes with SOUTHWELL wriggling free in the area to lash an angled drive past Sanna for his 16th goal of the campaign.

Dixon made a good save to deny Wes Baynes' free-kick from 25 yards and Boston completed the scoring in added time when WALKER swept the ball from close-range after Mills had played him in with a clever free-kick.
