Boston United scored five goals for the third home match in succession as they swept aside Guiseley at The Jakemans Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After taking an early lead through Kaine Felix, the Pilgrims weathered some sustained Guiseley pressure before Mark Jones doubled their advantage five minutes before half-time.

Dayle Southwell added a second half brace and after Gavin Rothery had briefly cut the deficit for the Lions, United sub Alex Simmons scored the goal of the game with a nonchalant lob.

United, with Carl Piergianni back from illness, started brightly and had three clear chances before their seventh minute breakthrough.

Keeper Steven Drench made three good saves to deny Southwell, two from a Nicky Walker corner, before United struck. Drench parried Walker's shot and FELIX was on hand to tap home the rebound.

Guiseley soon got themselves into the ascendancy and Alex Johnson whistled a 20-yarder wide following some hesitant United defending, while Nicky Boshell crashed an effort into the side-netting and Joel Dixon made a superb low save to deny Danny Boshell from 18 yards. Danny Lowe then slammed an effort off target after arriving late in the box.

United doubled their lead on 40 minutes when JONES intercepted Rothery's underhit backpass before running on to stroke the ball past an exposed Drench.

The Pilgrims effectively sealed the points six minutes after half-time with Walker clipping SOUTHWELL into the clear and United's top scorer did the rest with an excellent finish beyond Drench.

Guiseley had a good chance to reduce the arrears when Jake Lawlor's towering header clipped the post and flew wide from Wayne Brooksby's corner.

United went 4-0 up on 69 minutes with a composed finish from SOUTHWELL after running from the halfway line, following Jones' flick, to finish emphatically past Drench.

Jones was called upon to keep out Danny Ellis' header from Brooksby's corner while Brooksby himself made a crucial stop on the line to keep out Piergianni's towering header.

ROTHERY was left with the freedom of the penalty area to blast the ball past Dixon with seven minutes to play and deny United what would have been only a fifth clean sheet of the season.

Substitute Simmons had a great chance for his first Boston goal, but Drench saved well and Southwell blasted wide after being teed up by Newsham.

SIMMONS did not have to wait too much longer though and exquisitely chipped Drench from 25 yards following another United breakaway.
