Dayle Southwell was the destroyer-in-chief as Boston United claimed a 3-1 away victory over Hyde FC on Saturday afternoon.

Southwell scored the first and supplied the ammunition for further goals for Mark Jones and Kyle Dixon as the Pilgrims cruised to three points.

Hyde rallied briefly and cut the deficit eight minutes from time through Pete Boyle, but United held on for a fifth away win of the Vanarama Conference North campaign.

The result was fully merited, with United creating chances at will, while Hyde did not threaten seriously until the final 10 minutes.

Southwell saw two early chances go begging, with on-loan Huddersfield Town debutant Ed Wilczynski saving well at his near post before firing another effort wide following Jones' threaded pass.

United's breakthrough arrived on 29 minutes courtesy of a brilliant individual goal from SOUTHWELL who ran away from Perry Ng and Andy Pearson to slot the ball into the far corner beyond Wilczynski.

The United rampage continued with Kyle Dixon's low 25-yarder crashing into the side-netting while Southwell's stabbed effort was grabbed by Wilczynski following back-from-suspension Rene Steer's cross from the left.

United's second goal arrived five minutes before the break, with Southwell bursting into the area to cut the ball back for JONES to guide his shot home at the near post past a stranded Wilczynski.

The Pilgrims emerged for the second half knowing that a third goal would kill the contest and Southwell drilled into the side-netting after Grant Roberts had headed Nicky Walker's corner back towards goal.

The decisive third goal was scored on 61 minutes with Southwell getting away in the right-hand channel to lay the ball back for Kyle DIXON to slam it home after arriving late into the box.

It was Dixon's first United goal in 23 appearances for the club and the permanent acquisition from Notts County was twice denied by Wilczynski in subsequent moves.

Hyde were handed a lifeline when BOYLE wriggled through to lash the ball past Joel Dixon and dash United's hopes of keeping a clean sheet.

The Tigers' hopes of rescuing a point were slim, but United were indebted to further saves from their Sunderland loanee to thwart Boyle and skipper Josh Brizell, whose effort clipped the bar on its way over for a corner.
