Striker Mark Jones grabbed a hat-trick as Boston United put Bradford Park Avenue to the sword at The Jakemans Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The on-loan striker recorded his first United treble since August 2012 as United proved too hot to handle for the visitors.

Dayle Southwell and Nicky Walker were also on target as the Pilgrims netted five goals on home soil for the fourth time in five matches.

United boss Dennis Greene had been able to name an unchanged line-up against an Avenue outfit inactive since January 11.

Top scorer Southwell, off the back of signing a new contract in midweek, blazed two early chances off target.

Bradford had a mini spell of half-chances, with Joel Dixon alert to grab Brad Barraclough's effort following Joe Colbeck's cross, Danny Frost blasting wide and Chib Chilaka rounding the Boston keeper but being unable to roll the loose ball home.

The Pilgrims responded with Walker's volley being charged off the line by Billy Priestley and Kaine Felix's hooked effort flying wide of the far post following Walker's low corner.

Southwell was presented with a clear sight of goal but keeper John Danby stuck out a strong left hand to keep out the striker's drive.

United's breakthrough arrived 11 minutes before the break with a cool, composed finish from JONES, leaving Chris Howarth for dead, before stroking the ball beyond Danby from 18 yards.

United doubled their lead two minutes before the break. Moments after Jones had seemingly been denied a stonewall penalty, United retrieved possession and SOUTHWELL drilled home his 20th goal of the season after Felix had been denied by Priestley's block.

There was still time for an excellent save from Danby before half-time, denying Carl Piergianni following Walker's corner.

United put the outcome beyond doubt with 11 minutes of the second half played. JONES swivelled well to fire home, left-footed, following Zak Mills' cutback, despite Colbeck's attempts to clear off the line.

Chances continued to unfold for United, with Danby producing excellent saves to deny Grant Roberts initially and then Felix on the angle.

Boston's fourth goal arrived on 79 minutes with substitute Marc Newsham selflessly heading Felix's cross back for JONES to crack home his hat-trick goal which had too much power for Danby.

WALKER applied the icing to United's cake in stoppage time when he bashed home a 20-yard free-kick which Danby could not reach.
