Dayle Southwell bagged his third hat-trick of the season and Grant Roberts scored a wonder goal as Boston United secured a play-off place on Saturday.

Southwell's first half treble helped account for Solihull Moors at the Autotech Stadium and despite Ryan Beswick's effort on the stroke of half-time, Roberts wrapped up the points with a 25-yard thunderbolt after the break.

The result guaranteed United's top five berth with a game to spare following a terrific nine-match unbeaten run, including seven victories.

Things could have been different for the Pilgrims had Stefan Moore's fourth minute drive dropped an inch lower rather than rattling the underside of Max Stryjek's crossbar.

United soon found their feet and Kaine Felix cut infield to fire narrowly wide, while Stryjek had to stand tall to keep out the division's top scorer Omar Bogle.

The visitors edged ahead on 25 minutes when SOUTHWELL blasted home from 18 yards, low to Tony Breeden's left, after working himself a yard of space on the edge of the box.

United's lead was doubled 10 minutes later when Dominic Langdon failed to clear Roberts' probing cross and SOUTHWELL poached to force the ball home at the back post.

Mark Jones planted a header wide following Rene Steer's deep cross but United soon went three in front, four minutes before the break, when Michael Nottingham was penalised for handball and SOUTHWELL completed his third Boston hat-trick by dispatching the penalty underneath Breeden's dive.

Solihull cut the deficit in the final minute of the half when BESWICK arrived on cue to powerfully head home Jay Ballinger's deep cross from the left.

Moors had chances after the break too, with Stryjek saving brilliantly from Bogle, while Beswick blasted another effort wide.

United put the contest to bed on 57 minutes when ROBERTS sailed home a beauty from 25 yards which left Breeden standing.

Both sides utilised their maximum allocation of substitutions as the match became disjointed, but United were able to see out time comfortably a claim a crucial three-point haul, with Roberts required to complete a goalline clearance to keep out Liam Daly's towering header.
