Curzon Ashton's influential playmaker struck nine minutes after half-time to hand Adam Lakeland's side a first-ever victory in Boston.
The Pilgrims huffed and puffed throughout - with Jordon Crawford going closest towards the end of the first half when he drew a fine save from visiting stopper Chris Renshaw.
Jean Leroy Belehouan and Tom Platt were back in the United starting XI - with an early Keenan Ferguson cross creating the game's first opening, although Alex Brown and Jake Wright were unable to finish.
Ryan Hall rounded a wandering Sam Long at the other end, but Brown produced a timely block close to goal.
Long made excellent saves towards the end of the first half to deny Will Hayhurst and Tom Peers, while Renshaw excelled to keep out Crawford two minutes before the break.
The game's defining moment arrived in the 54th minute when HANCOCK was afforded too much time in the penalty area to bend a delightful effort past an exposed Long.
United ramped up the pressure, forcing corner-after-corner at one stage of the second half, but Curzon held firm without too many scares whatsoever.
