Boston United 1-2 Spennymoor Town

Craig Singleton

Boston United tumbled to defeat on a night of controversy at the Jakemans Community Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Spennymoor Town goalkeeper Dan Langley handled outside his penalty area in the fourth minute - but went unpunished - and Moors stole all three points two minutes from time when Glen Taylor netted, despite seeing Cameron Gregory save his initial spot-kick.

Paul Blackett had headed Spennymoor into a 19th minute lead, which had been cancelled out by Billy Chadwick's exquisite chip 17 minutes after the break.

The result left the Pilgrims level on points with the bottom four - but the tale could have been so much different had referee Will Davis and his assistant Matthew Jackson opted to dismiss Langley for his early misdemeanour.

A bright United start was gradually pegged back by the in-form visitors and Spennymoor edged in front when Reece Kendall delivered from the left and BLACKETT headed home at the back post.

Joe Tait had made three crucial blocks to divert three United half chances - before Gregory thwarted Blackett, who had been threaded through down the Town right.

Boston's best chance of the first half fell to Jake Wright, on the end of Zak Mills' cross from the right, but his header dropped wide.

Langley made a big save to deny Jordan Burrow at the start of the second half, while Taylor sailed a volley marginally wide for the visitors.

United levelled in the 62nd minute when Mills teed up CHADWICK, who nonchalantly chipped Langley from 20 yards for his third goal in Boston colours.

Tait's header was gathered by Gregory following Mark Anderson's free-kick delivery - while Langley saved well to deny Tom Nixon.

Spennymoor had a further chance to retake the lead - but former United loanee Connor Shanks, who did not play a single minute of football for the Pilgrims, fired wide after Gregory had saved Taylor's free-kick.

Will Atkinson was adjudged to have fouled Blackett with two minutes to play and despite Gregory guessing correctly to save the penalty, TAYLOR crashed home the rebound to stun the home crowd.
