Boston United surrendered a winning position on home soil to lose out 2-1 to Chorley on Saturday afternoon.

Jay Rollins had capped a vibrant United first half display with the game’s opening goal a minute before the break, but Chorley came back strongly after half-time.

Josh Hine equalised on 61 minutes and scored the winner nine minutes later following a slip from goalkeeper Henrich Ravas.

It was the Pilgrims’ first home league defeat having taken the lead in a game since November 2012 against Guiseley.

Jordan Richards and Aaron Greene were handed their debuts for United, while Lartey Sarpong and Nicky Walker were included on the bench.

The Pilgrims came within a whisker of taking the lead on 10 minutes when Rollins’ back post header rattled the woodwork following Dayle Southwell’s deep cross.

Southwell then lifted an effort over the bar following Kyle Dixon’s low corner and saw another firm drive beaten away by Sam Ashton.

There was a decent chance for Chorley with Dale Whitham knocking down Marcus Carver’s deep cross and Andy Bond fired tamely wide with Ravas rooted to the spot.

United took the lead in the 44th minute after Jones and Southwell had neatly combined and ROLLINS profited by sweeping home from close-range.

The early stages of the second half were scrappy but Chorley gradually moved through the gears.

They levelled when HINE was afforded plenty of time to control Darren Stephenson’s deep cross from the right and he picked his spot to bury the ball beyond Ravas.

Ravas was then required to save with his legs to deny Hine, while Carver drove wide of the near post following Bond’s telling throughball.

The game’s defining moment unfolded with 20 minutes to play when HINE met Stephenson’s cross with a downward header which was only helped over the line by red-faced Ravas.

United tried to mount a late rally but the closest they came was when substitute Jamie McGhee saw his drive deflect narrowly wide off his own team-mate Scott Garner.
