Boston United rounded off an unbeaten October with an excellent 3-1 home victory over FC United of Manchester on Saturday afternoon.

Dayle Southwell opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 10th minute and Jordan Richards doubled the lead with a long-ranger three minutes later.

Matthew Wolfenden halved the deficit for FC United in the final minute of the first half, but Carl Piergianni restored Boston's two-goal cushion in stoppage time before the break and the Pilgrims never seriously looked like relinquishing their advantage.

Boston started at break-neck speed and Piergianni was denied twice inside the opening seven minutes. His towering header was hacked off the line by Jerome Wright following Grant Roberts' corner, while a second goalline clearance from Sam Sheridan similarly denied Piergianni moments later.

Southwell then intercepted Liam Brownhill's miscued back header but he could only toe the ball wide of the near post.

The Pilgrims' breakthrough arrived in the 10th minute when SOUTHWELL coolly converted from the spot after keeper David Carnell had upended Mark Jones.

Matters got even better for the hosts three minutes later when RICHARDS sailed home a beauty from 22 yards after Roberts' corner had only been partially cleared.

Ryan Robbins was subsequently denied by an excellent Carnell save as Boston threatened to cut loose.

Henrich Ravas saved routinely from Greg Daniels' overhead kick, while Sheridan fired a 20-yard free-kick off target, before FC United cut the deficit in the 45th minute with WOLFENDEN rolling an effort into the far corner.

Moments before Wolfenden's goal, Robbins had done brilliantly to weave his way through the visitors' rearguard but his finish was sadly lacking.

United did restore their two-goal lead in first half stoppage time when PIERGIANNI got up highest to power home Dylan McEvoy's inviting free-kick, via the inside of Carnell's right-hand post.

Chances were at a complete premium after the break, with Ravas untroubled, while Carnell was called upon to make excellent saves to deny Southwell on 53 minutes and substitute Nicky Walker's free-kick on the 90-minute mark.
