North Ferriby United and Boston United served up a seven-goal thriller but it was the Pilgrims who came out on the wrong end of the scoreline.

Grant Roberts and Carl Piergianni had twice handed Boston the lead at Church Road, but Liam King twice struck equalisers and then Tom Denton and Mark Gray scored to hand Ferriby the initiative.

Kyle Dixon reduced the arrears in the closing stages but the Pilgrims were unable to find the leveller their performance warranted.

Boston were unchanged and should have led within six minutes, with Piergianni's header nestling narrowly wide following Zak Mills' long throw.

Mills' long throws were a key element of the Pilgrims' performance and they took the lead in the 13th minute when Ferriby failed to clear their lines. The ball fell to ROBERTS whose low 20-yarder deflected past Adam Nicklin.

The hosts levelled on 29 minutes with a composed finish from KING, running from deep, to slide the ball beyond the onrushing Ravas.

Boston threatened again with Nicklin forced to charge from his box to confront Ryan Robbins and the keeper got lucky with his clearance ricocheting off the visiting striker and wide.

Mills was called upon to nod Denton's header off the line in first half stoppage time and the visitors re-established their lead nine minutes after the break with Mills' long throw clearing Denton and reaching PIERGIANNI who buried his header high to Nicklin's left.

The lead lasted less than a minute though with KING in the right place once again to poke the ball beyond Ravas from close-range.

Boston's response was strong once again and Dylan McEvoy's drive was beaten away by Nicklin, who then saw Dayle Southwell denied at point-blank range.

Nicklin was injured in the mayhem and had to make way for stand-in Tom Nicholson on the hour mark. The replacement keeper soon looked set to be picking the ball out of the back of the net, but after Mark Jones had shrugged off Gray to gallop through one-on-one, his finish was wayward and cleared the crossbar.

The Pilgrims clearly sensed three points but were caught napping 17 minutes from time with Danny Clarke afforded an acre of space to cross for DENTON to pick his spot with a bullet header from 12 yards.

Ravas subsequently saved with his legs to deny King his hat-trick but Ferriby soon stretched their lead with GRAY slamming home Russell Fry's low corner.

The Pilgrims cut the deficit in the 82nd minute with an emphatic rising finish from substitute DIXON, on for the injured Jones, but despite a late bombardment in which Nicholson brilliantly denied Southwell, Boston were beaten.
