Boston United chalked up an important victory over Corby Town on Saturday afternoon courtesy of goals from Ryan Robbins and Kaine Felix.

Robbins opened the scoring in the 22nd minute and Felix marked his continuing rehabilitation from injury with a match-clinching second a minute from time.

United carved out numerous chances, with Carl Piergianni rattling the post in the first half and a combination of Scott Garner and Dayle Southwell doing likewise after the break.

Dennis Greene brought his latest two signings into the squad, with Sunderland loanee Jordan Blinco and Leiston striker John Sands involved for the first time.

It was a good jinking run from debutant Blinco that played in Robbins on the United right after only four minutes, but the effort did not get enough purchase to beat Town's debutant on-loan Wolverhampton Wanderers keeper Harry Burgoyne. Garner then headed wide following Blinco's left-wing cross.

The Pilgrims came close to opening the scoring on 17 minutes when Piergianni's header bounced to safety off the upright following Dylan McEvoy's inviting free-kick.

It took only five more minutes for the deadlock to be broken and after Grant Roberts' dipping volley was deflected wide by Town skipper Cleveland Taylor, Southwell slipped ROBBINS away down the United right and he cut into the box to drill into the far corner.

Robbins had a further curling effort parried to safety by Burgoyne as United threatened to cut loose.

Henrich Ravas did well to hold Taylor's low, skidding effort as the match ticked towards half-time and Corby had a gilt-edged chance to level with Callum Ball heading over from a yard out following Kurtis Revan's cross from the right.

United sensed a second goal would kill the contest off and attacked regularly after the break, with Roberts' drive hacked off the line by Revan following Robbins' burst down the right.

Garner's header then deflected off Southwell and on to the post, while a further Southwell drive was tipped wide by Burgoyne.

Corby manager Tommy Wright introduced himself from the bench late on and went close to an equaliser, but fired wide on the end of fellow sub Andre Johnson's cross.

Burgoyne excelled to deny Sands a dream debut goal after the United substitute had surged through, but United soon made the points safe.

FELIX showed great desire to chase a ball down the flank before cutting in and beating Burgoyne with aplomb, high up, at his near post.

There was still time for Ravas to deny Johnson in stoppage time, but the job was already done for the Pilgrims.
