Striker Dayle Southwell scored his 14th goal of the season as Boston United ended Solihull Moors' long unbeaten record on Saturday afternoon.

Southwell's 66th minute strike sealed all three points following an excellent assist from substitute Jay Rollins.

It was the Moors' first league defeat since April when they were beaten 4-1 by the Pilgrims.

United expended plenty of energy to keep Moors' free-flowing football at bay for a second week running, following last weekend's narrow FA Trophy reversal, and arguably merited all three points after restricting the hosts.

Scott Garner had returned in place of Ryan Robbins, who was deemed only fit enough to be a substitute, while Kyle Dixon aggravated an injury in the warm-up but remained on the bench.

The Pilgrims required two saves from Henrich Ravas to keep the scores level at the break. Ryan Beswick's fierce drive was gathered by Ravas at the second attempt as it moved through the air and the United keeper subsequently used his legs to thwart Akwasi Asante after Sunderland loanee Dylan McEvoy had slipped to allow the big striker through.

The first meaningful chance of the first half resulted in the only goal of the game. Substitute Jay Rollins, on eight minutes earlier for Kaine Felix, skipped away down the United right and delivered a pinpoint cross which was scrambled home at the back post by SOUTHWELL, despite Benjamin Siegrist's best efforts on the line.

Solihull applied plenty of late pressure, but Ravas was only called upon to make two saves of note in the closing stages, turning a Darryl Knights drive over and a Liam Daly long-ranger wide.

At the other end, Siegrist almost fumbled Zak Mills' long throw over the line but recovered in the nick of time.
