John-Lewis turned provider for Hill 12 minutes later and then added his second and United's third with a deflected effort three minutes before the break.

Rhys Lovett and Ken Aboh came into Graham Coughlan's starting XI ahead of kick-off, with Killian Barrett and Connor Teale making way, and the Pilgrims were soon on the front foot at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.

Frankie Maguire and John-Lewis had early efforts repelled, while Hill's near post drive deflected behind for a United corner.

The Pilgrims took a 23rd minute lead when Greg Sloggett and Matty Carson combined to great effect for JOHN-LEWIS to get across his marker and glance home a fine finish into the far corner.

John-Lewis was involved in the role of supplier in the 35th minute, sweeping the ball through for HILL to run on and finish neatly into the corner beyond an exposed Jamal Blackman.

United ultimately put the game beyond Morecambe with a third goal in the 42nd minute, with JOHN-LEWIS seeing his effort deflect and fly past a stranded Blackman after Adam Crowther had nodded the ball down.

Morecambe sub Paul Lewis went close after emerging as the home side's first change - but Blackman had to deny Aboh and John-Lewis in quick succession, before further saves to deny Hill and Maguire.

There were late cameos from the bench for fit-again duo Alex Lankshear and Kieren Donnelly - to cap a perfect away day for the Pilgrims.
