Cursons' 47th minute effort settled a tight encounter between the Pilgrims and their visitors, which had been deadlocked at half-time following a cagey first half.

The Pilgrims were good value for their win, with home keeper Andrew Wogan only forced into one save of note to deny Lewis Simper in the second half.

Chances were sporadic during a tight first half - with the main talking point being the loss of skipper Greg Sloggett to a back injury.

Jack Sims was called upon to make the game's first save when he kept out Matty Carson's angled drive.

The Pilgrims took the lead two minutes after half-time when CURSONS weaved his way through to arrow a low drive beyond the despairing dive of Sims.

In response, Wogan touched Simper's long-range drive behind for a corner, while the Sutton playmaker also whipped a free-kick into the side-netting from a tight angle.

The Pilgrims held on without too many scares, as a flurry of substitutions from both sides killed any flow to the game in the closing stages.
