Solihull Moors 0-3 Boston United

Craig Singleton18 Apr - 21:30

Boston United concluded their away programme in the National League with a resounding 3-0 victory over Solihull Moors on Saturday afternoon.

The Pilgrims took full advantage of Conor Wilkinson's 65th minute red card for words aimed at referee Sunny Singh Gill, which necessitated a 25-minute suspension of play.

Once the match finally resumed, a Lewis Baines own goal handed United the lead - with substitutes Jacob Hazel and Frankie Maguire scoring the clinching goals in the final 13 minutes of normal time.

Goalkeeper Louis Chadwick was handed his National League debut ahead of kick-off, while Jordan Richards returned from injury.

Luca Barrington was the third player coming into the United side and he fired Boston's two best chances off target in the first half.

The Moors should have taken the lead two minutes before the break, but Joe Sbarra miskicked in front of goal as he attempted to meet Jamey Osborne's ball from the left.

Chadwick made a good save after the break to deny sub Jacob Wakeling - before the whole afternoon turned on Wilkinson's red card for inappropriate language towards Gill.

The referee took both sets of players off the pitch as he assessed his options - and they eventually returned to play the final 25 minutes of regulation time.

United took the lead two minutes after the restart - with BAINES inadvertently directing Matty Carson's cross from the left beyond his own keeper Laurie Walker.

The Pilgrims doubled their advantage in the 77th minute when Lavinier had two stabs at getting the ball into the path of HAZEL, who swivelled neatly and beat Walker with a rasping left-footer.

Maguire subsequently converted substitute Tom Cursons' assist from the left - but Hazel was belatedly flagged offside by assistant referee Stuart Kane after being deemed to be interfering with Walker's line of sight.

MAGUIRE was undeterred though and did score his goal on the stroke of full-time after dinking Carson's ball from the left over Moors keeper Walker.
