Aboh's 58th minute lob settled a tight encounter in the favour of the Pilgrims - after visitors Altrincham had rattled the post inside the opening minute of the second half through Liam Humbles.

The Pilgrims were otherwise good value for their victory - with Aboh and Sai Sachdev close to extending United's lead in the second half.

Gavan Holohan was selected from the start, with Nicholas Pozo ruled out through concussion, as United chased their first home win of the campaign.

Ex-Pilgrim Jimmy Knowles cracked an early effort too high for the visitors, before Altrincham keeper Owen Evans denied Lennon Wheeldon from long-range.

Evans' treatment for a non-contact injury forced Altrincham skipper Lewis Banks to spend a minute off the pitch, under the new rules, while United soon needed a terrific Sachdev block at the back post to deny Charlie Kirk a near certain goal.

Kirk's forceful run into the box at the start of the second period saw Humbles crash a low drive off the post.

Sachdev was denied by a brilliant Otis Khan block - but ABOH gave United the lead when he latched on to Jamie Grimes' raking free-kick delivery to run on and lob the ball past an onrushing Evans.

Aboh was inches away from a second four minutes later, but United needed a superb block from Jamie Grimes to repel Matty Kosylo's drive.
