Jay Rollins and Kalern Thomas scored the all-important goals as Boston United picked up three valuable points on Saturday.

Adam Murray's Pilgrims emerged as 2-0 victors from their visit to Bradford Park Avenue which was a sixth successive win over their hosts.

Rollins opened the scoring after 33 minutes and Thomas wrapped up the points 16 minutes from time with a deflected effort on the counter-attack.

The Pilgrims had handed a full debut to striker Richard Brodie ahead of kick-off, while Alex Simmons made the first start of his third loan spell with the club. A third newcomer, Karl Hawley, was on the bench.

Brodie was denied by a Jon Worsnop save in the first minute following a long throw from Thomas but he was booked on 24 minutes following several minor fouls involving the Avenue backline.

Wayne Brooksby was the home side’s biggest attacking threat and two efforts flew off target as Avenue chased a breakthrough.

United edged ahead when Worsnop turned aside Brodie’s long-range free-kick, before blocking Simmons’ follow-up, only for ROLLINS to stab home the loose ball.

Brooksby rattled a post in response, while Simmons lashed a fine effort narrowly wide as chances continued to be traded.

Avenue wanted a penalty in the second half when Ross Durrant clashed with Reece Webb-Foster, but referee Simeon Lucas waved away the home side’s protests.

Rollins subsequently sent substitute Callum Chippendale into the clear, but his touch was heavy and the chance was lost.

Durrant saved well to deny Nicky Boshell and it laid the platform for United to kill the contest. Ben Gordon managed to free the marauding THOMAS down the left flank as United cleared an Avenue corner and the right-back ran over half the length of the pitch to sail an effort beyond Worsnop via a slight deflection.
