Boston United chalked up their first away point of the season after fighting back to secure a 1-1 draw at Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday afternoon.

Emmanuel Sonupe had handed the hosts a seventh minute lead and United feared the worst when skipper Adam Chapman saw his spot-kick saved by keeper Brandon Hall midway through the first half.

The Pilgrims stepped up a gear after the break and levelled four minutes into the half when Kabongo Tshimanga’s drive cannoned into the net off home debutant Fraser Horsfall.

United had made two changes ahead of kick-off, with Jack Cowgill and Brad Beatson returning to the starting XI.

Their afternoon got off to a bad start when George Willis rushed from his box to deal with a long ball from opposite number Hall but misjudged its pace and SONUPE swooped to fire home into an unguarded net from 25 yards.

Joe Ironside had an effort charged behind by the impressive Jordan Keane as Harriers threatened to extend their lead, while Dan Bradley fired wide from distance.

The Pilgrims had a golden chance to equalise when Tyrone Williams was deemed to have fouled Ashley Hemmings in the box but Hall dived to his left to keep out Chapman’s penalty.

Willis showed a good pair of hands to hold Ironside’s header from a James McQuilkin corner at the end of the first half.

United were revved up for the start of the second period and equalised within four minutes when TSHIMANGA saw his drive take a wicked deflection off Horsfall to beat Hall via the underside of the crossbar.

Tshimanga should have put United in front three minutes later, but his drive was straight at Hall after spinning away from Williams.

In a spell dominated by the Pilgrims, Chapman’s looping header was cleared off the line by Sonupe following Hemmings’ corner.

Kidderminster enjoyed the late pressure, with United remaining a threat on the break, and Sonupe fired wide before Wills saved well from Bradley and then denied sub Andre Wright.

Tshimanga had a good chance to win it for the Pilgrims but his rising drive deflected behind for a United corner in the closing stages.

Kidderminster thought they had snatched all three point in stoppage time when Horsfall met McQuilkin’s deep cross, but Cowgill blocked heroically at the back post.
