Jay Rollins scored a stoppage time winner as Boston United earned three valuable points on a rain-soaked night at The Jakemans Stadium on Tuesday.

Rollins struck in the second minute of added time to sink North Ferriby United, who had fortuitously led at the break through ex-Pilgrim Joe Pugh.

Rollins equalised three minutes after half-time and subsequently fired United's winner when they were down to 10 men following Harry Vince's 79th minute red card.

The Pilgrims started brightly in the teeming rain and Kabongo Tshimanga sailed an early effort wide from 22 yards. Skipper Adam Chapman then saw an effort deflect wide following a marauding run towards the box.

Ex-Pilgrim Ross Durrant was a key presence for Ferriby and he repelled James Clifton’s corner which had skipped through a packed penalty area.

Durrant twice denied Ashley Hemmings from distance before the Villagers took the lead seven minutes before half-time when PUGH rolled the loose ball home after Curtis Bateson had rattled the top of George Willis’ left-hand post.

United threatened an immediate response but Jack Broadhead was too high with an effort on the end of Jan Yeomans’ cross.

In a packed start to the second half, Hemmings’ long-ranger deflected wide and from the resulting corner, Broadhead’s header was ruled out for a push.

United levelled in the 48th minute when ROLLINS sailed home a beauty from the corner of the penalty area after catching Durrant out of position.

Hemmings had further efforts sail wide and into Durrant’s grateful arms, while Clifton blasted into the side-netting and Broadhead was denied by a fantastic save from Ferriby’s former Pilgrim between the sticks.

Bateson motored for the visitors in a rare second half foray, but his finish was lacking, before the game exploded into life once again.

Vince, on the pitch for only seven minutes, was shown a straight red card after catching ex-Pilgrim Kyle Dixon and Ferriby assistant manager Darryn Stamp followed in the aftermath for his reaction to the incident.

ROLLINS had the last laugh though, latching on to Karl Hawley’s precise throughball following Jordan Keane’s initial ball forward to roll beyond Durrant in the Town End net.

There was still a chance for Ferriby to equalise when Mark Gray met Dixon’s corner with a downward header, but a combination of Keane and Brad Beatson on the line kept the ball out.
