Boston United relinquished a winning position to lose 2-1 to Bradford Park Avenue on Monday evening.

The Pilgrims led through Brad McGowan on the half-hour mark but were eventually undone by Bradford replies either side of half-time from Mark Ross and Adam Boyes.

It sentenced United to a fifth reversal in six league away days during the opening weeks of the Vanarama National League North campaign.

Home striker Oli Johnson saw a shot and header fly off target in the cagey opening stages but it was United who drew first blood with 30 minutes played.

Ashley Hemmings delivered a teasing free-kick delivery and McGOWAN powered home a close-range header to hand his side the lead.

Avenue equalised four minutes later when Boyes headed down Graham Kelly’s long throw and ROSS slammed home the loose ball from the edge of the box.

Boyes had a further chance before the break, but fired too high after meeting Wayne Brooksby’s cross.

Adam Chapman was within millimetres of restoring United’s lead five minutes after the break when he sent a thumping 25-yarder agonisingly wide.

United were made to pay when BOYES found space inside a packed penalty area to angle a fine finish past George Willis in the United goal.

The Pilgrims were not without chances to equalise. James Clifton’s piledriver was tipped wide by Ed Hall, while Karl Hawley headed wide on the end of Hemmings’ cross and substitute Tyrell Waite smashed arguably United’s best chance high and wide when brilliantly-placed.
