Craig Elliott's tenure as Boston United manager got off to a losing start after the Pilgrims were beaten 3-1 by Harrogate Town on Saturday afternoon.

Ashley Hemmings had fired the Pilgrims in front from the penalty spot in the fourth minute but Harrogate were level two minutes later despite George Willis saving Joe Leesley's spot-kick, with the same player netting the rebound.

George Thomson handed Harrogate a half-time lead with a fine solo effort and Jordan Thewlis sealed the win two minutes short of the hour mark.

United had got off to a bright start and Hemmings had already sailed an effort into the side-netting before the Pilgrims were afforded a glorious opportunity to take the lead.

Gregg Smith was shoved by Warren Burrell and HEMMINGS confidently slammed home his third spot-kick of the season.

United’s lead was short-lived though and Harrogate were awarded their own penalty when Jan Yeomans clipped Josh Falkingham in the area. LEESLEY tucked home the rebound after seeing his initial spot-kick saved well by Willis.

The sides traded chances through Hemmings and ex-Pilgrim Liam Agnew but it was the hosts who took the lead with eight minutes left on the clock.

THOMSON raced down the United right before cutting inside to fire high to Willis’ right which left the Pilgrims’ keeper grasping at thin air.

Willis kept the deficit to one before the break with a decent save to deny Ryan Fallowfield.

Town extended their advantage just shy of the hour mark when THEWLIS motored following a United long throw deep in Harrogate territory to hold off the challenge of Yeomans and drill beyond Willis.

Hemmings remained United’s biggest attacking threat and his goalbound free-kick was tipped over the bar by James Belshaw.

Harrogate kept the Pilgrims at arm’s length in the closing stages and almost added a fourth when Falkingham advanced to drill wide from a tight angle.
