Reece Thompson's 10th minute strike sealed an important away victory for Boston United at Chorley on Saturday afternoon.

The Pilgrims made a bright start at Victory Park and took the lead when Thompson combined with strike partner Jake Beesley to fire United in front.

United produced a disciplined performance thereafter and led by the excellent pairing of Ryan Qualter and Jordan Keane at the heart of their defence, repelled anything Chorley threw at the visitors.

The result completed the Pilgrims’ third league double of the season following previous home-and-away successes over North Ferriby United and Alfreton Town.

Ashley Hemmings had already arrowed a bullet effort narrowly wide by the time United took the lead.

Beesley outmaneuvered Andy Teague down the United right which allowed THOMPSON to run through the middle and fire the loose ball past an exposed Matt Urwin.

The Pilgrims managed to keep their play-off chasing hosts at arm’s length and the closest the Magpies came before half-time was when Marcus Carver’s cheeky backheel was clutched by Jon Stewart in the United goal.

Urwin denied Beesley at the start of the second period as the expected Chorley onslaught failed to materialise.

Stewart grabbed an Alex Newby effort before throwing everything behind Adam Blakeman’s dipping volley in the final minute.

United saw out time in a professional manner and finished the match playing against 10 men after Dale Whitham was red-carded for a lunge on Brad Abbott.
