Boston United secured a valuable share of the spoils on the road against Spennymoor Town on Tuesday evening.

The Pilgrims reached the 50-point milestone after battling their way to a draw at a foggy CNG Stadium in Harrogate.

United created the best chances in the second half and arguably should have won after going close through the likes of Ben Middleton, Ashley Hemmings and Reece Thompson during an enterprising second 45 minutes.

Manager Craig Elliott had brought Jamie McGuire into the Pilgrims’ starting XI ahead of kick-off, with Andi Thanoj missing out through illness. Kabongo Tshimanga was also missing from the United bench due to his own bout of illness.

The fog made viewing conditions difficult and the sides battled hard during a cagey first half stalemate.

Ashley Hemmings’ corner was bundled against the far post by home keeper Dan Lowson while Stephen Brogan made a brave block to deny Glen Taylor at the other end.

The second period was a livelier affair and Lowson had to be alert to tip Hemmings’ goalbound drive behind for a corner.

Middleton then flashed a header marginally too high from the resulting Hemmings corner before Shane Henry and Taylor both crashed efforts off target for the hosts.

Hemmings sailed another effort wide from distance while Thompson converted from an offside position after turning home Brad Abbott’s initial effort.

Taylor’s radar malfunctioned in front of goal with 15 minutes to play and Lowson made another fine save to thwart Thompson as the match fizzled out into a draw which was more use to the travelling Pilgrims as they reached the half century of points to all-but seal survival.
