Boston United failed to break their Solihull Moors hoodoo after suffering a 1-0 defeat at Damson Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Pilgrims tumbled to a third successive one-goal loss at the hands of the Midlands outfit with Lee Morris scoring the only goal of the game on 66 minutes.

United came close to scoring when winger Ryan Semple rattled the post in the first half, but the Pilgrims came up short in the second half against a well-drilled and resilient Solihull rearguard.

Boston included suspension-free Alan White in their starting XI, with the injured Nathan Stainfield missing out.

With Japanese J League and FIFA referee Toma Masaaki in charge of the encounter, the Pilgrims dominated the first half — but were unable to convert their supremacy into goals.

The Moors could have been awarded an early penalty when Kevin Austin steamed into a challenge on Danny Spencer, but referee Masaaki awarded a corner.

Paul Bastock was forced into a good save to claw away Jordan Fitzpatrick’s dipping 30-yarder moments later.

United stepped up the pace with Bastock picking out Semple down the United left and he cut infield to drill too high from 25 yards.

Craig Hinton then sold keeper Jasbir Singh short with a backpass, but Jordan Burrow could not quite keep the ball in play, with the goal otherwise at his mercy.

Milnes had a dipping 20-yarder held at second attempt by Singh, while the home keeper soon made an excellent save to divert Semple’s goalbound shot on to the post and wide for a corner.

The second half was devoid of real quality — and chances were at a premium until Solihull broke the deadlock on 66 minutes.

Substitute James McPike delivered a cross from the right which bobbled around the United box and MORRIS applied the finishing touch at the back post.

United tried to force an equaliser, but they did not make much headway against a strong and organised Solihull defence.

Semple’s deep cross was agonisingly missed by Jason Lee — and the ball bounced wide off Michael Blackwood.

White’s shot was brilliantly blocked by Dominic Langdon, but Solihull carved out two further openings with Spencer twice heading off target.

United’s push for an equaliser was hampered by a facial injury to Gareth Jelleyman, which required several minutes of treatment from sports therapist Katie Cooper.
