Gregg Smith, Nicky Walker, debutant Gavin Allott and Brad Abbott were on target as Boston United recorded a comfortable home victory on Saturday.

The Pilgrims thumped Blyth Spartans 4-0 at The Jakemans Stadium having been set on their way by Smith's 12th minute breakthrough.

Walker, Allott and Abbott wrapped up the victory with goals inside a 15-minute period in the second half to seal three points for Craig Elliott's dominant hosts.

United, with Smith and Allott paired in attack for the first time, started at an express pace at The Jakemans Stadium.

Their bold opening was rewarded after a dozen minutes when Abbott cushioned a header into the path of SMITH to slam the bouncing ball beyond Peter Jameson in the Blyth net.

Jonathan Wafula soon picked out fellow winger Walker with a pinpoint cross and his volley flew too high from 15 yards.

Roles were instantly reversed with Walker crossing from the left and Wafula heading over the bar at the back post.

Wafula was soon withdrawn due to injury, with Josh Hine becoming United’s second debutant of the day.

Hine came close to an instant impact after Ryan Qualter’s header had been blocked on the line following Ben Davies’ corner, but he was just unable to turn home the loose ball.

Blyth’s solitary chance of the first half arrived at the death when Sean Reid ghosted in to head Robbie Dale’s free-kick just too high.

United should have been further ahead at the break but were undeterred after the interval and threatened again with Jameson denying Abbott.

The Pilgrims finally added their second goal in the 64th minute when Allott clipped WALKER into the clear and he drove the ball through Jameson’s legs to double the hosts’ advantage.

Walker turned provider in the 77th minute by crossing from the left for ALLOTT to turn the ball home from close-range for a debut goal.

The rout was concluded two minutes later with the goal of the game as ABBOTT crashed home a beauty off the underside of the crossbar from 25 yards.

There was still time for Jameson to deny substitute Andre Johnson and the day’s third debutant, Jordan Slew, as United looked for further rewards in the closing stages.
