Boston United were denied an important victory at the death as AFC Telford United battled back to earn a 2-2 draw at The Jakemans Stadium on Saturday.

Ben Davies' penalty on 61 minutes and Gavin Allott's 85th minute strike had looked like handing the Pilgrims all three points, despite trailing to Daniel Udoh's opener in the 10th minute.

However, Theo Streete equalised in the fifth minute of stoppage time to hand the Bucks what was arguably a fair result on the balance of play and leave the Pilgrims six points behind the Shropshire outfit in the play-off race.

Craig Elliott’s side fell behind when Darryl Knights was afforded too much time to cross from the left-hand side and UDOH powered the ball home from close-range.

Telford were forced to change goalkeepers when Andy Wycherley sustained an unfortunate eye injury in a clash with Jonathan Wafula, for which the Boston man was booked, and Joe Bursik deputised from the bench.

The Bucks’ Ross White was forced to hack the ball off the line after Jay Rollins had hooked over a cross for Allott to fire goalwards.

Bursik subsequently made a fine stop to keep out Allott after the Boston striker had shrugged off the attentions of Streete and his defensive colleague Shane Sutton.

George Willis stuck out a big right leg to keep out Amari Morgan-Smith at the beginning of the second half, while Spencer Harris’ volley flew wide for the Pilgrims.

United levelled when Streete was penalised for a stray hand in the penalty area and DAVIES rammed home the resulting spot-kick.

Willis was forced to deny Knights at full-stretch before back-peddling to tip his angled, goalbound free-kick over the crossbar.

Ashley Jackson threaded a fine ball into the path of substitute Max Wright, but Bursik saved bravely at the concession of a United corner.

The resulting flag-kick was driven back into the danger zone by Nicky Wroe and touched home at the near post by ALLOTT with five minutes to play.

Willis made two reaction saves to thwart James McQuilkin before the Pilgrims survived an almighty goalmouth scramble as they inched closer to victory.

Their good work was undone with five additional minutes played when STREETE lashed home after Sutton had nodded down Adam Dawson’s cross from the Telford left.
