Darlington struck twice in the second half to leave Boston United empty-handed in their penultimate home fixture of the season on Saturday afternoon.

United had shaded the first period at The Jakemans Stadium but fell behind to substitute Kit Elliott's strike on 58 minutes.

Elliott's fellow Huddersfield Town loanee Ben Jackson struck Darlington's second from distance two minutes later to seal victory for Tommy Wright's visitors.

United had been hampered by the absence of five players ahead of kick-off, with injury victims Ryan Cresswell, Nicky Walker and Gavin Allott being joined on the sidelines by ill strike duo Tom Clare and Jordan Slew.

Andre Johnson was handed his first start since August in a new-look attack alongside Jay Rollins.

United keeper George Willis made two good saves midway through the first half to deny Jordan Nicholson, while Johnson lashed an effort off target for the Pilgrims.

The Pilgrims’ best chances arrived at the end of the first half with Jake Turner denying Rollins, before Jonathan Wafula saw his rebound blocked on the line by Terry Galbraith.

Ben Middleton headed off target from a Ben Davies corner at the start of the second half, while Willis produced a flying save to keep out Stephen Thompson’s header.

Darlington seized control when ELLIOTT curled a fine effort into the far corner of Willis’ net from 18 yards and they doubled their lead within 120 seconds when JACKSON took aim from 25 yards and duly blasted home.

Willis made a late save to deny Harvey Saunders, one of three substitutes who had been introduced at half-time by the Quakers, as Darlington wrapped up a comfortable away win.
