Jordan Thewlis scored his first hat-trick in Boston United colours as the Pilgrims chalked up an impressive away victory on Saturday afternoon.

Craig Elliott's side prevailed 3-1 against AFC Telford United despite falling behind to Adam Walker's deflected effort in the 33rd minute.

The Pilgrims were already in control territorially and turned the match on its head when Thewlis levelled on 52 minutes, scored a penalty four minutes later and glanced home a header in the 62nd minute to seal his memorable treble.

With Jay Rollins nursing a slight hamstring complaint, Andi Thanoj was recalled to the starting XI.

United were reliant on an Alex Whittle clearance off the line to ensure the deadlock remained unbroken on the 10-minute mark. He denied Matt Stenson following Brendon Daniels’ corner.

The Pilgrims thought they had taken the lead when Dominic Knowles profited after home keeper Matt Yates had denied Thewlis, but the flag promptly went up.

United hit the woodwork twice in quick succession, with Thanoj’s free-kick crashing off the crossbar before Theo Streete sliced a clearance against a post following Martyn Woolford’s free-kick delivery.

Knowles was denied by a brave block from Streete before the hosts took the lead in the 33rd minute when WALKER saw his 25-yarder take a nick off Simon Ainge and nestle beyong the grasp of Peter Crook.

United almost mustered an immediate response, but Whittle was superbly denied by Yates following good build-up play from Woolford and Thewlis.

The Pilgrims levelled seven minutes after half-time when Woolford’s delightful ball from the left evaded Billy Sass-Davies and Daniels to reach THEWLIS, who checked back inside to beat Yates at his near post.

Yates subsequently denied THEWLIS again but the United top scorer doubled his tally in the 56th minute when he blasted home a spot-kick after Sass-Davies had been penalised for pulling Luke Shiels’ shirt.

THEWLIS completed his treble six minutes later when he glanced home Thanoj’s corner with a rare headed goal.

Telford threw everything at the Pilgrims in the closing stages, with Aaron Williams rattling the crossbar, Marcus Dinanga missing his kick in front of goal and Stenson blasting high and wide.

Crook spectacularly denied Williams in stoppage time but the Pilgrims held on for all three points.
