After trailing to Steve Hall's well-taken opener, and with Droylsden having seen Carlos Logan denied from the penalty spot by Dan Haystead, United came back strongly and led 3-1 at half-time thanks to goals from Spencer Weir-Daley, Mark Jones and Marc Newsham.
Newsham added his second after the break and James Reed put the icing on the cake with a deflected fifth.
Graham Hyde had assumed control of the Pilgrims for a second time in a caretaker capacity and he made three changes, with Dan Haystead and Gary Silk joining Jones in the starting line-up, with Ricky Drury, Jack Andrews and Ian Ross missing out.
The afternoon had not got off to the best start for United. Nathan Stainfield was adjudged to have brought down Logan in the area and the fouled player got up to take the spot-kick, but he was denied by Haystead who dived low to his left.
Droylsden's bright start continued with Rob Sissons drilling wide and the Bloods were soon ahead. Ben Fairclough unwittingly played HALL into space and he produced a neat finish from 20 yards to hand the visitors the lead on 23 minutes.
United gradually found their feet and levelled on 31 minutes. Jones' shot was blocked by Dale Latham and WEIR-DALEY tucked home the rebound from close-range.
Boston took the lead five minutes later. Latham had already denied JONES but from the resulting Jason Stokes corner, the big United attacker powered home a tremendous header at the back post.
United added their third goal two minutes before the break when NEWSHAM finished with aplomb after springing the Droylsden offside trap.
Further goals arrived after the break. Fairclough and Weir-Daley produced a neat piece of interchange play to free NEWSHAM, who finished expertly beyond an exposed Latham.
REED capped United's success with a fifth goal eight minutes from time, lobbing Latham with the aid of a big deflection.
