Boston United 1-1 Guiseley

Craig Singleton

Boston United served up a dominant performance against Guiseley on Tuesday evening but were denied maximum spoils deep into stoppage time.

The Pilgrims played some brilliant football and created chances at will and eventually led through Terry Hawkridge's excellent 55th minute free-kick.

It looked like the hosts would see things through but were denied by a long-range effort from substitute Nathan Newall in the sixth of seven added minutes at the end of the contest at The Northolme.

With Connor Dimaio replacing Andi Thanoj in the only change to the side which had beaten AFC Telford United on Saturday, the Pilgrims took the fight to Guiseley from the off and Brad Wade made early saves to deny both Jordan Thewlis and Jordan Burrow.

Guiseley went close in the 27th minute when Kian Harratt sailed a 35-yard effort against the crossbar after seizing upon Ross Fitzsimons' poor clearance.

Wade made a fantastic save to keep out Burrow at full stretch, before blocking a near post effort from the same player following Scott Duxbury's barnstorming run down the left.

Dimaio fired two efforts too high as the Pilgrims closed the half on the front foot.

The second half started off in a similar fashion, with Thewlis firing wide and Matt Tootle's cross being nodded over the bar by Burrow.

United finally edged in front 10 minutes after half-time when HAWKRIDGE picked himself up after being scythed down by Brad Nicholson and crashed home a low free-kick from 20 yards which was too hot to handle for Wade.

Wade later repelled another Hawkridge free-kick as United continued to create chances galore.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men when Prince Ekpolo was stretchered off following a challenge from Scott Garner and Burrow came within a whisker of sealing the points when he rolled an effort marginally wide of Wade's near post following great play from Dimaio and Hawkridge.

Guiseley unbelievably snatched a point in the sixth added minute when the Pilgrims could only partially clear Lebron Mbeka's long throw and NEWALL crashed home a bouncing effort from outside the box to the delight of his gleeful team-mates.
