Strikers Ricky Miller and Marc Newsham bagged second half goals as Boston United extended their unbeaten start to the new Skrill North campaign.

The deadly duo were on target on 53 and 78 minutes respectively as the Pilgrims swept aside Leamington at The Jakemans Stadium.

The Pilgrims were full value for their victory, which extended their haul to seven points from nine inside the opening seven days of the season.

United were made to work hard for their victory against the promoted Southern Premier League champions but there was no doubting the Pilgrims’ superiority throughout.

Displaying an unchanged line-up, United threatened first with Spencer Weir-Daley having a fifth minute drive held by keeper Tony Breeden.

The Brakes responded with centre-half Liam Daly volleying too high from the edge of the box following Stefan Moore’s corner delivery from the right.

United continued to create with Miller playing in Conor Marshall to lash an effort wide when well-placed, before Weir-Daley's firm drive was beaten away by Breeden following Scott Garner’s throughball while Newsham headed over from Marshall’s return cross.

Breeden made the save of the game when he reacted quickly to tip Miller’s angled 25-yarder behind for a corner. Miller then turned provider, skipping round Stephan Morley, to play in Newsham, but his finish was lacking from 12 yards.

United had a let-off when Morley’s long throw was flicked on by Ricky Johnson and headed only just over the top by Moore.

The Pilgrims closed the half on top with Breeden going well to deny Newsham, before Weir-Daley had a follow-up blocked amid a goalmouth scramble.

United took the lead eight minutes after the break — after starting the second period firmly on the front foot. A move involving Ian Ross, Netan Sansara and Ben Milnes culminated in a ball through for MILLER to run on and lash home United’s opener from a tight angle.

Away keeper Breeden went walkabouts minutes later and with Newsham aiming to take advantage of an empty net from 30 yards, Brakes’ defender Paul McCone was forced to intervene with a timely block.

Leamington had two quickfire chances to equalise. Moore skipped round Scott Garner to curl an effort over the bar, while substitute Jamie Towers rattled the base of Ashley Timms’ left-hand post with a firm drive.

But the match swung decisively in Boston’s favour a minute later when NEWSHAM drove home a low finish at the near post following Peter Bore’s excellent assist from the right, moments after clipping the inside of Breeden’s far post following a terrific solo run and effort.

There was a late chance for Lee Chilton to advance and crash a drive too high, while Timms did well to save from Daly, but United’s victory was long since secured courtesy of their deadly double act up front.
