Boston United surrendered a three-goal half-time lead as Harrogate Town roared back to claim a share of the spoils in an absorbing Skrill North clash.

Marc Newsham had netted twice, including once from the penalty spot, while Spencer Weir-Daley was also on target as the Pilgrims cruised into a seemingly unassailable lead.

Liam Hardy, however, cut the deficit on 68 minutes and set United rocking, with Dominic Rowe and Dayle Southwell completing the comeback, with Netan Sansara red-carded in the process for the Pilgrims.

There had been little sign of things to come during the opening 10 minutes which saw Harrogate on the front foot against a United side showing four changes to the one beaten at Brackley Town seven days previously.

Ashley Timms was called upon to grab Southwell’s deflected strike, but United gradually got themselves into the ascendancy and quickly took control.

Scott Garner headed over from a Rene Steer free-kick and in United’s next attack, they took the lead. Ricky Miller did brilliantly to cross from the left and NEWSHAM flicked home a nonchalant effort to leave keeper Craig MacGillivray stranded.

Further chances saw Peter Bore’s 25-yarder held by MacGillivray, Weir-Daley being denied by a terrific Shane Killock block following a long-busting Jake Hall run and Miller seeing a goal chalked off for handball.

United’s second duly arrived on 23 minutes. Hall was upended by Dwayne Samuels and NEWSHAM buried the penalty low into the corner.

Boston edged three goals in front five minutes later when Miller again assumed the role of provider for WEIR-DALEY to shift the ball across his body before finishing with aplomb from the edge of the box.

Debutant Steer was in the right place at the right time to boot Leigh Franks’ drive off the line, while Timms made a crucial double save to deny Adam Bolder and Chris Hall on the stroke of half-time.

United could have added to their lead, but Carl Piergianni glanced a header over after nipping in ahead of MacGillivray while Miller had a blockbuster charged behind for a corner.

Harrogate chucked on three half-time substitutes and took the match to the hosts after the break, with plenty of long balls for Garner and Piergianni to deal with.

United were coping well until the 68th minute when Indy Aujla was penalised for pulling back Southwell and from the resulting Dave Merris free-kick, HARDY forced the ball home from close-range.

Boston could have killed the contest in their next attack, with Miller drilling wide with Weir-Daley screaming for the pass to condemn Harrogate to defeat.

But it was the visitors who continued their comeback when ROWE sailed home a fabulous long-range effort which Timms did not move for with 19 minutes to play.

The comeback was complete five minutes from time when substitute Sansara was sent off for a wild challenge on Franks and SOUTHWELL stroked home the resulting spot-kick.

The remaining moments passed without too much incident, although it was remarkably United who were hanging on with 10 men after leading by three goals with three quarters of the contest played.
