Boston United captain Ian Ross rescued a deserved point for the Pilgrims on Saturday afternoon as the spoils were shared at Bradford Park Avenue.

United trailed to Alex Davidson's 49th minute strike at the Horsfall Stadium but levelled through Ross' stunning free-kick on 76 minutes.

Both sides had chances to win the game, but United closed strongly and rattled the crossbar through Netan Sansara.

The result actually dropped the Pilgrims to fourth place, but they are now tied on points with Hednesford Town, Altrincham and North Ferriby United at the top of Skrill North.

Dennis Greene had sprung surprises ahead of kick-off, with Charley Sanders handed his first United start, with defender Scott Garner also thrown up front.

Early sighters from Chib Chilaka and Paul Walker flew off target for the hosts, before United fashioned a great opening of their own.

Stefan Galinski's long ball was nodded down by Sanders and Garner headed a fraction wide with keeper John Lamb beaten.

At the other end, the returning Lewis King made a terrific save to palm Nicky Boshell's free-kick on to the angle of bar and post.

Marc Newsham then volleyed over the bar after Sanders had set Ricky Miller clear to cross.

Despite a bright United start to the second half, Avenue took the lead four minutes after the break. Walker broke at speed down the left and DAVIDSON fired home a tap-in from 10 yards.

Bradford threatened to kill the contest and Boshell's drive clipped the outside of the post following Walker's brilliant run and assist.

Spencer Weir-Daley and Conor Marshall were soon introduced and played key roles in getting United back in contention.

Ross created a huge chance when he set Weir-Daley clear, but he could only screw his effort over under pressure from the retreating James Knowles.

United levelled 14 minutes from time. Boshell tugged back a marauding Marshall and ROSS did the rest by firing home a brilliant 25-yard free-kick high to Lamb's right.

The Pilgrims went close to winning the contest with Ross firing another set-piece over the bar, Sansara cracking the woodwork with a firm drive and Lamb denying Marshall from 25 yards.

King had to deny Simon Lenighan at the death as time ran out for either side to force a winner.
