Boston United 2-1 Guiseley

Craig Singleton

Jordan Burrow and Fraser Preston scored the all-important goals as Boston United recorded a third straight home win in all competitions on Saturday afternoon.

The United duo accounted for Guiseley at the Jakemans Community Stadium, with Burrow firing the Pilgrims in front after 14 minutes and then Preston clinching the points four minutes before half-time.

In between times, ex-Pilgrim Jordan Thewlis had briefly equalised - but United prevailed in a tight encounter.

United boss Craig Elliott had opted to name an unchanged XI ahead of kick-off, with suspension-free Tom Platt and new signing Luke Spokes joining a strong bench in reserve.

Thewlis carried Guiseley's greatest threat throughout and Luke Shiels was well-positioned in the third minute to block a firm drive from his team-mate of the last two seasons.

Danny Elliott had seen a near post drive turned behind by visiting keeper Luke Jackson by the time United edged in front. A move of high quality involving Elliott and Jordan Preston played BURROW into the clear and he made no mistake with a fine angled finish across goal.

Chances were at a premium during the first period and Guiseley equalised in fortuitous circumstances six minutes before the break when THEWLIS seized upon George Sykes-Kenworthy's poor clearance to arrow a low 35-yarder into the bottom corner.

United re-asserted their lead two minutes later when Jackson beat aside Connor Dimaio's long-range strike and Fraser PRESTON stooped to head home the loose ball.

Guiseley came close to a second equaliser three minutes after half-time when Brad Nicholson's 20-yard drive, following a short free-kick routine, rattled the top of Sykes-Kenworthy's right-hand post.

The Lions did not create a more presentable chance in the remainder of the game, with United going close through a Burrow flick narrowly wide from a Jake Leake cross and Dimaio's drive from distance clearing Jackson's crossbar.
