United had trailed to Alex Penny's 13th minute header, only for Wright Jnr to deservedly haul United level in the 64th minute.
Penny's fellow ex-Pilgrim Hemmings had the last laugh with a fortuitous effort which deflected past Marcus Dewhurst to hand Harriers all three points - in the first of successive meetings between the sides at the Jakemans Community Stadium.
United's afternoon got off to a disappointing start when experienced campaigner Paul Green limped off with a sixth minute hamstring injury.
They fell behind seven minutes later when PENNY wriggled free from full debutant Kyron Gordon to plant a header into the net after meeting Hemmings' deep corner.
Either side of Penny's goal, visiting keeper Luke Simpson had made stunning saves to keep out Wright Jnr and Joe Leesley. Gordon also headed wide from a Shane Byrne corner.
Simpson made another fine save to claw away Wright Jnr's header at the beginning of the second period, while Byrne crashed an effort wide from distance.
The Pilgrims levelled just before the mid-point of the half when WRIGHT JNR tucked the ball home from close-range after Harriers were unable to clear their lines.
Kidderminster stole all three points though with 14 minutes to play when HEMMINGS saw his long-range drive take a wicked deflection off Matt Tootle and creep under the crossbar and past Dewhurst.
