Joe Leesley, Danny Elliott and Brad Abbott fired the Pilgrims into an unassailable 3-0 lead inside 26 minutes - with Marcus Poscha and Dale Whitham subsequently dismissed for the hosts either side of half-time.
Shane Byrne applied the icing to United's cake with a sublime 20-yard free-kick in the 83rd minute.
With Jake Wright Jnr back in the starting XI for the first time in almost three months, with fellow strikers Jordan Burrow and Ntumba Massanka both injured, United made a blistering start.
Elliott linked up with Femi Seriki down the United right - and LEESLEY crashed home a right-footed volley from midway inside the Curzon penalty area with four minutes on the clock.
Abbott subsequently robbed Craig Mahon in the middle of the pitch five minutes later and threaded a fine pass through for ELLIOTT to beat Chris Renshaw with a low right-footed drive which nestled into the net via the inside of the keeper’s right-hand post.
Roles were reversed in the 26th minute when Elliott turned provider for ABBOTT, who saw his inside-the-area drive take a deflection and fly past Renshaw.
Poscha was handed his marching orders for a stamp on Wright Jnr 10 minutes later - and Whitham followed 17 minutes after half-time for two quickfire yellow cards.
United wrapped up the scoring, after completely dominating the second half, when BYRNE netted a fabulous 20-yard-free-kick with seven minutes to play.
