Danny Elliott handed the Pilgrims a 21st minute lead with his 26th goal of the campaign - but the Bucks equalised deep into first half stoppage time when Jason Oswell tapped home from a quick free-kick routine.
Both sides rattled the woodwork during a tense second half - as Telford eased their relegation fears and United kept their destiny in their own hands.
United had an early let-off, with Carl Baker drilling across goal and wide after the visitors had been drawn out of position down their left-hand side.
Paul Green, making his first appearance since January 22, blazed wide for the Pilgrims following United's first attacking foray.
United took the lead with a move of real quality, with ELLIOTT heading home Brad Nicholson's fine delivery from the left.
Marcus Dewhurst made fine saves to keep out Brendon Daniels and James Melhado before the break, while Elliott wasted a glorious chance to bag United's second following good play from Femi Seriki.
The Bucks levelled in the fifth minute of added time at the end of the first half when United switched off from a set-piece and OSWELL swept home Baker's low ball from the right.
Home keeper Luke Pilling excelled to keep out Scott Duxbury at the start of the second half, while Oswell twice rattled the goal frame with headers from respective Ryan Burke and Byron Moore crosses.
The Pilgrims ended strongly and James Hanson rattled the crossbar from a Shane Byrne corner, while Elliott whizzed a 25-yarder a fraction wide of Pilling's left-hand post.
