The brother of Stamford AFC defender Richard Jones, he netted his first United goals in a 4-0 Lincolnshire Senior Shield victory over Lincoln United. By the conclusion of his first spell with the Pilgrims, he had netted 14 times in 29 appearances before switches to Gainsborough and Spalding United.
