Striker Jordan Nuttell fired a second half haul of four goals as Boston United romped past Lincoln United in Wednesday evening's FA Youth Cup clash.

Charley Sanders and James Reed had fired the Pilgrims into a two-goal half-time lead despite a strong start from the Whites.

Nuttell’s four strikes after the break put the tie beyond the hosts to ensure the Pilgrims ran out worthy winners.

Four of the Pilgrims’ starters were FA Youth Cup debutants and the visitors struggled to get going during the early stages at Ashby Avenue.

Despite carving out two good chances early on, Sanders headed wide, while Nuttell had a header saved by Stefan Denman in the home goal. Skipper Niall Delahoy had delivered the ammunition from the right on both occasions.

Lincoln pushed forward in search of the game’s opening goal and came close when Josh Searle blasted goalwards, only for keeper Sam Vince to respond with an excellent save.

Vince saved again from Searle moments later while Harry Ginniff fired wide from distance as the hosts came close to rocking the Pilgrims.

Boston wrestled back the initiative and eventually went in from on 35 minutes. After Jordan Sowerby had headed narrowly wide following Charlie Rossington’s inviting cross from the left, SANDERS produced a good finish-on-the-turn following Todd Devlin’s driven throughball which dissected the home defence.

The lead was doubled seven minutes later. Joe Briers did well to work the ball across from the left flank and REED lashed home a stunner from around the 20-yard mark which had Denman grasping at thin air.

Boston killed off the tie four minutes into the second half. NUTTELL embarked on a run down the left before beating Denman at his near post with a ferocious finish from 18 yards.

There were further rewards for Steve Welsh’s side 10 minutes later. Delahoy whizzed over a delightful right-wing cross and NUTTELL got up to powerfully head home United’s fourth.

Vince made a good sprawling save to keep out substitute Max Batty’s drive midway through the second half, but it was the Pilgrims who always looked likelier to add to the scoreline.

They did just that in the 66th minute when NUTTELL sailed home a 20-yard free-kick, high to Denman’s left, following a foul on livewire substitute Leon Squire.

Josh Spencer headed wide from a Lewis McKue corner, while substitute Curtis Revell was twice denied by Denman in the closing stages.

Boston applied the icing to the cake in stoppage time with NUTTELL blasting home a firm drive from 20 yards to seal a home clash against Dunkirk in the next round.

Boston (4-4-2): Sam Vince; Niall Delahoy, Josh Spencer, Todd Devlin, Charlie Rossington; Aaron Eyett, James Reed (Lewis McKue 68), Jordan Sowerby (Leon Squire 63), Joe Briers (Curtis Revell 63); Charley Sanders, Jordan Nuttell. Subs (not used): Jack Hall, Charlie Melville.
