Holwell Sports 0-4 Boston United

Craig Singleton26 Sep 2013 - 08:58

Liam Moran, Jacob Pease, Miles Lynch and Leon Squire scored the goals as Boston United recorded a comprehensive FA Youth Cup win over Holwell Sports.

United were in complete control throughout the match at Welby Road and after holding a 2-0 interval lead, killed the tie with two further goals within the first 10 minutes of the second half getting under way.

The Pilgrims will now entertain local rivals Lincoln City in the second qualifying round.

Moran had already fired wide and Lynch been denied by Sports' keeper Colton Cropper by the time United took the lead in the 13th minute.

MORAN played a neat exchange with the outstanding Aaron Eyett before stroking home the game's opening goal from inside the area.

Chances continued to arrive at a rapid rate for the Pilgrims. Eyett's 20-yarder was saved, Bradley Easey fired over from 12 yards following a Jordan Sowerby cross and then Eyett curled a 22-yard free-kick over the bar.

Squire slipped Easey into the clear to seemingly double United's lead, but the ball came back off the post, while Cropper soon denied Moran from close-range.

United increased their advantage in controversial circumstances three minutes before the break. Eyett laid a free-kick back to PEASE, who smashed the ball goalwards, only for keeper Cropper to palm it on to the underside of the crossbar.

As the ball bounced down, the assistant referee awarded the goal, although it did not appear to be close to crossing the line.

Sports were furious, with Cropper booked for his overzealous complaints, but the goal stood.

United continued their offensive after the break and made it 3-0 when LYNCH strode on to Easey's left-wing cross and finished with aplomb.

The Pilgrims added their fourth goal on 55 minutes when SQUIRE ran from inside his own half, beating three challenges, to roll the ball past Cropper for the goal of the night.

The game was over as a spectacle, but the Pilgrims maintained their thirst for further goals. Substitue Joe Searson fired over, Easey's one-on-one was saved by Cropper, while Sowerby's effort deflected wide following interchange between Eyett and Searson.

Cropper made an excellent save to keep out Ollie Price's back post drive following Lewis McKue's cross, while Charlie Melville planted one header over the bar before having a second effort blocked by the home keeper.

Boston (4-3-3): Sam Vince; Daniel Worthington, Charlie Melville, Ollie Price, Jordan Sowerby; Miles Lynch (Joe Searson 68), Jacob Pease (Lewis McKue 60), Aaron Eyett; Leon Squire (Steven Dovey 57), Liam Moran, Bradley Easey. Subs (not used): Josh Spencer, Tom Benton (gk).
