The Pilgrims led Gateshead 2-0 inside 11 minutes through Will Pettitt and Sean Bray-Smith and despite Rueben Fogg seeing a penalty brilliantly saved by Matty Cassap, they were 3-0 in front at half-time following Pettitt's second goal of the game.

Finley Ging completed the scoring five minutes after the break to ensure a winning start for the Pilgrims.
